Sweet Dreams

"Sleep is the best meditation."

- Dalai Lama

The idea behind getting a good night's rest sounds simple enough. Turn the lights out. Turn the t.v. off. Snuggle under the covers. Close your eyes. Drift serenely into unconsciousness. Wake up in about 8 hours, refreshed and ready to take on the day. That sounds like the best meditation to me!

All I have to say is, if only! I've read many times, in many different articles that Americans are some of the most chronically sleep deprived people on the planet. I definitely fit into that category. Getting enough sleep is essential for our bodies and minds to be in optimum shape. Yet, most of us can't seem to find enough hours in the day to accomplish everything we'd like.

Today's Bliss

I challenge you to get yourself in bed tonight and get an honest to goodness full night's sleep. If you are having trouble floating off to la la land, count sheep! I'm only kidding! Here is a marvelous article with tips on how to catch some z's. Sweet dreams.

Beautiful Music

"Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and cannot remain silent."

- Victor Hugo

I don't know about you but sometimes I have so much pent up emotion, whether good or bad, that I just can't seem to express it effectively. It is in situations such as these that I find myself turning to music. I have always had a great passion and love of music so, to me, it is just a natural reaction at this point to listen to something that suits my mood. There is a great entry in the Living with cancer blog on about how music can soothe your soul and energize you life.

Today's Bliss

When you find yourself stressed out, having trouble getting to sleep at night or overjoyed about something wonderful happening in your life mark the occasion with a song that lifts your spirits, calms you down or celebrates the moment. You might be amazed how the right song can improve your mood.

One of my very favorite songs to listen to while relaxing.

Feed Your Soul

"Learn to cook--try new recipes, learn from your mistakes, be fearless, and above all have fun!"

-Julia Child from My Life in France

I'm not sure anyone could sum up the importance and essence of cooking better than Julia Child. Cooking is a form of therapy in the most rustic definition of the term. This idea of cooking as a stress reliever is discussed briefly in this NY Daily News article.

Today's Bliss

Take the time to create a favorite meal from scratch or test out a new recipe you've been dying to try. Put on some mood music, (Samba De Mon Coeur Qui Bat on Pandora is a favorite station of mine) and go to it!

My latest culinary creation. Salsa Verde Enchiladas.

Check out the recipe!

Simplicity Is Key

"They say a person needs just three things to be truly happy in this world. Someone to love, something to do, and something to hope for."

-Tom Bodett

Welcome to Daily Bliss! I truly belive that simplicity is key when trying to achieve happiness. That is why I really love the above quote by Tom Bodett. The purpose of this blog is to inspire you to make time for yourself every day, even if only for a moment, to be totally blissed out. I may not be able to provide you with someone to love but I hope that I will be able to inspire you to find one thing to do, one thing to hope for or one thing to love each and every day.

Today's Bliss

A true revelation in happiness. For all of us out there who constantly wonder why the news only features the most negative, violent and unpleasant stories here is our anecdote. Enjoy!
